Now I am done. And a little sad. I will miss all the great times that we had. And all the awesome MVRL lab people.

By the way, I want to give thanks to: (Dr.) Jeff Pelz, Susan Farnand, Bethany Choate, Bob Callens, and MVRL Lab for making this internship possible and answering my many questions!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-87343469227866217282013-08-22T12:56:00.000-07:002013-08-22T12:56:13.193-07:00Day Thirty-ThreeSecond to last day! In the morning we had the practice presentation. Simran and I did not have to change much because all the mistakes were fixed by this point. The only problem we had was with the videos. Videos don't easily switch between macs and pcs. All that is left is to practice a little, and to figure out what I am wearing tomorrow!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-50510508642803105832013-08-21T14:31:00.001-07:002013-08-22T12:56:55.517-07:00Day Thirty-TwoThere are only two more days left! Simran and I finished edited our presentation. Jeff was kind, and decided to critique our presentation again. Some other person also watched our video. The hints that they gave were very helpful. As of now, the presentation is in perfect shape (other than one thing on powerpoint that this computer is not letting me do!). The only thing left is to practice our speech. And to find a jump drive that works. Both mine and Simran's RIT jump drives broke. And I lost my real jump drive. It is becoming a problem right now. Anyways, the practice presentation before the interns is tomorrow morning! And the real thing is on Friday!

P.S. We had Christmas in August today. It was awesome. Watching people receive gifts is great!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-73787132767517212182013-08-20T13:39:00.000-07:002013-08-20T19:02:55.252-07:00Day Thirty-OneToday the entire MVRL Lab critiqued our presentation. It was very helpful. Now there is a lot of work to do. But it is okay, because our project will be a lot better. From this internship I learned two things about my lab. One: people bring in food randomly! Two: they critique very well. The entire lab spend two hours critiquing a 17 minute presentation. Our lab is definitely the best one in this internship!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-90464112926362483612013-08-16T14:19:00.001-07:002013-08-16T14:19:30.796-07:00Day ThirtySimran and I almost finished the powerpoint. It is going pretty good. Now we need to practice. Today was the barbeque. Simran and Robert brought badminton rackets, so we played badminton. That was a lot of fun. A lot better than volleyball! I am so ready for a weekend...Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-46633056755378143462013-08-16T06:20:00.003-07:002013-08-16T06:20:48.364-07:00Day Twenty-NineI am getting really bad at blogging after work. There is just so much going on at the end of the day that I don't remember. So now I am blogging about yesterday. Simran and I finished our speech, an started working on the powerpoint. We probably will finish everything today, and then have the entire next week to practice. We had Sisily (she was one of the interns here a long time ago, and now works in the MVRL lab) look over our speech. It was really helpful because she pointed out some of the confusing parts of our speech. Now we have to get feedback from Bob and Bethany.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-57699614373970534082013-08-14T11:57:00.001-07:002013-08-14T13:06:51.606-07:00Day Twenty-EightSimran and I got a lot of done today. We wrote out our entire speech, and planned what we have to do until next Tuesday. On that Tuesday, we will have to present in from of our entire lab. Apparently that will not be a fun and pleasant experience, and we will get a lot of criticism. But that will make us prepared for Friday.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-32678240441408568422013-08-13T13:38:00.000-07:002013-08-13T13:38:10.978-07:00Day Twenty-SevenYesterday was a fun day. Our entire group went to the Mees Observatory and got to see cool galaxies and stars. I saw 5 meteorite shower. That was the first time I ever saw one. Today Simran and I worked on analyzing the data. We know know what to do. And we have a lot of work left!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-59539321192727131782013-08-09T14:07:00.000-07:002013-08-09T14:07:05.331-07:00Day Twenty-FiveBring your friend to work day! Jeri was my friend. She was helpful to Susan's experiment. My other friend Rachel was supposed to come in to, but she couldn't make it. So, basically we walked around and showed our friends each of the labs and the stuff they do. Those people also participated in our experiment. That was helpful. I also found out that Jeff is not going to be here until next week! And our presentation has to be finished by the 20th. And Simran and I have to practice because someone is picky. And Jeff has to tell us how to analyze our data. There are just so many problems!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-29111764380533103712013-08-08T13:38:00.001-07:002013-08-08T13:38:05.311-07:00Day Twenty-FourWe had a lot of people coming in.There were some people who did not show up though! Most of the other people came in by themselves. That was good. They did not give us good results, but by this point it does not matter. While sitting and waiting for people I got so bored that I fell asleep. And then woke up thinking that several hours had gone by and we missed a lot of people. It was good to realize that it was only a dream. I was really tired, and it was really hot in that room, even though the door was open for most of the time. Now I really want to take a shower. I will do that as soon as I get home.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-86392650784610346922013-08-07T12:26:00.001-07:002013-08-07T14:05:08.243-07:00Day Twenty-ThreeUncooperative subjects!!! (We had to find subjects that did not remember about us, and we did not know where they were or how they looked like!)
Another frustration is that I feel like my days on the post tiles is off. I know I skipped one day because of Massachusetts, but it is still wrong according to other people's blog. Maybe they are just wrong!*
Anyways, Bob sent out an email to help us find more subjects, and we got like 5 more people already. Hopefully they show up tomorrow and Friday... even though our research project is giving us answers that we don't want!

*I figured it out. I skipped Thursday. But, it is okay, because Thursday was just another busy day trying to find Jeff and finish the experiment.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-54483832551686425652013-08-06T14:00:00.000-07:002013-08-07T14:05:18.106-07:00Day Twenty-TwoI realize that typing out all of the day numbers is getting to be kind of hard. But I am not planning on changing that in the middle of this blog. Today, Simran and I basically ran the experiment on more interns and found like 10 more people that we could use in our tests. That involved walking into random rooms and interrupting busy looking people. Also, today I participated the Insight Labs's experiment. They had many cool programs that you could use in a classroom. I thought that they were very cool and useful. Now that lab sounds cool. It used to sound very boring. I am excited about finding more random people to run out tests on tomorrow!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-52670468932444861702013-08-05T14:22:00.001-07:002013-08-07T14:05:27.272-07:00Day Twenty-OneSo, on Friday I was in Massachusetts, so I missed the graduate symposium. It was a lot of fun, and I might even end up going there for a year or two. Today Simran and I finished the setting up the experiment and got some people in to be test subjects. We have about 15 people, but we need a lot more people, so if anybody wants to stop in they can. Now I need to go home and catch up on the sleep that I missed while at Massachusetts.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-29080809892064714732013-07-31T14:11:00.000-07:002013-07-31T14:11:52.053-07:00Day EighteenA day of hard work.... on videos. There is not much more that I can say other that it was tedious, and slightly pointless. I kind of doubt our research will give us good results. The couple of people we tested did not give us excellent answers... so it is kind of sad. Hopefully it is not as bad as it seems. Anyways, now I am waiting for Jeff... he said he was supposed to have a meeting with me at 4:30, but it is 5:10 right now and he has not arrived. Maybe we were supposed to have a meeting with him tomorrow, but we thought it was going to be today. Either way, I am not very happy because that means that Simran and I are not exactly sure what to do now! Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-84229471057057813402013-07-30T14:56:00.001-07:002013-07-30T14:56:19.542-07:00Day SeventeenSimran and I did a lot of work today. It was mostly video editing, but there is a lot of work still left. The good thing was that we found Jeff, and got to talk to him like four different times. That was unusual, but very good. Now I have to go home, get a lot of sleep, and work a lot tomorrow.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-49047107925954528682013-07-29T14:10:00.001-07:002013-07-29T14:10:57.271-07:00Day SixteenModays are just bad days in general. Today, we worked a bit on our research project, and got to the point that included finding a video. That was the bad part. YouTube is just not that exciting. After watching pointless videos the almost the entire day.... I am so bored!!!! But, we did decide on a video, so now we just have to find Jeff, and make him help us a little. But he is not teaching tomorrow, so I might actually find him! The only other exciting thing we did was go on a hunt for Wegman's cookies, and find Robert in his big, dark, underground lab. The cookies were really good. I hope tomorrow is a better day....Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-38497119755422047262013-07-26T14:28:00.000-07:002013-07-26T14:28:27.713-07:00Day FifteenWe finally decided on our research project!!! It was some grad students idea, but it was amazing. And we found Jeff, which was very helpful. Other than that we did not do too much work . Well, we did run three more tests, and find articles that we need to read. Now I feel like we will actually start doing a lot of work (like setting up the experiment)! Oh, we had really good cake (thanks Nate!) at the barbeque... and candy. Thats was about it. Weekend!!!!!!!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-15422593176419050042013-07-25T12:04:00.000-07:002013-07-25T12:08:19.782-07:00Day FourteenMy goal is to make sure I write out each number with it's actual long form (I have no idea if I stated that correctly!). Anyways, currently bored out of my mind because we have not been able to find Jeff for a while now. Simran and I did do a lot of work today. We organized our new research ideas, tested some more subjects and did some more surveys. The survey was fun to do (talk to random strangers!) and we found one good answer on our surveys. At this point I probably should stop talking about the surveys, but I can tell you that one person made me very excited! Now we need to find three more good people. Who knows when that will happen.... At lunch I found out that Mary Emma knows a little about fencing. She had a sword fight with Calvin (she was amazing!), and won. My respect for her rose greatly after that (it was high already when I found out that she is a beekeeper!). Now I got to find a way to keep me busy for an hour while Susan tries to find Jeff... where ever he is.

Doesn't the hamburger just look good?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-3333849639134417382013-07-24T14:21:00.000-07:002013-07-24T14:25:17.248-07:00Day ThirteenBrainstorming... Simran and I were not happy with our ideas, so we decided to find new ideas. That included talking about random stuff, looking up the most pointless things, and playing some ISpy games. Now our idea list is a lot bigger. Then Susan found us, and we talked a little. Apparently, Jeff is supposed to be in tomorrow... hopefully. After a really boring movie about patents, Simran and I tested some more people for Susan's experiment. Then we decided to do a survey. Can't tell you guys why we are running the survey, but I can tell you that it was fun going and talking to random people. The last guy we talked to was some old guy who told us interesting stuff about how he came here. Tomorrow Simran and I are planning to do some more surveys. Hopefully they bring is good results! They better.... or else...

In the morning Simran and I watched a psychology student run an experiment. Afterwards I finished my abstract and title, but then decided to switch my topic. Then we had Dong's birthday party. Preethi made a really good ice cream cake. After lunch Susan stopped in, and Simran and I shared our ideas. That helped me to get organized. Now I need to find Jeff somehow. Hopefully that happens soon....who knows when that will happen. Then Simran, Sara, Calvin, and I went to the graduate symposium. There were many interesting things there. The best part though was the ice cream at the end. Overall, it was a good day, and now I have to figure out how I am supposed to find Jeff....Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-34195807638525076342013-07-22T14:11:00.000-07:002013-07-22T14:11:22.745-07:00Day Eleven Susan and Jeff (our advisors) weren't here...and we needed them badly. Simran and I got our research ideas down, but we need approval. So instead we researched a little, and then talked about the ideas. Then we spent some time talking to Sarah. Around 11, we found Preeti and she taught us how to use a wearable eye tracker. That gave us something to do. After lunch, Simran and I did Susan's experiment of Robert. While waiting on him, Simran and I played hangman. That was fun.....currently I am the winner. Then, Simran, Sarah and I attempted to find Java's.... but we failed, and decided to head back. Then we found Robert's popsicles (and moved them) and ate some. Then we got back to work, learned how to use Yarbus a little. Today was not a very productive day (other than the wearable eye tracker and Yarbus part). Hopefully Susan and Jeff will be back so they could give us some work to do.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986896531609309626.post-73165092884307422702013-07-19T14:17:00.001-07:002013-07-19T14:17:18.721-07:00Day TenA fun day.......compared to the other days. I got a lot of work done, so I can call this a successful day. I organized and refined my research ideas, and now have to do the hard work of choosing one. Maybe Simran has a good idea and I could work with her. Maybe... we'll see what happens. Then when Susan came in we set up the eye tracker and started our experiment. All the Insight Lab interns got to stare at the screen and choose images they liked better. The rest of the interns will get to do that later....once we figure out when the lab is reserved. Anyways, today was Friday, so we had a barbecue. Then we played volleyball. It wasn't great because I forgot how to play for some reason. Now I have dark red spots on my hand. They kind of look scary, like I have something wrong with my hand, but I am sure they will go away quite soon. The rest of the day I spent working on T-Shirt design (apparently there are problems with the copyright of the Perry the Platypus). So now, we have the platypus with the prism. Oh, I almost forgot... my friends (Ellie and Acadia) came over today for a visit. It was the last day of their internship with some Chemistry professor. It was fun to see all of my other friends (and realize that we have to go school at the end of the summer.....). Well....time for the weekend... :)
Another research day... Simran and I finished the Excel data crunching (finally!). The rest of the day we spent researching, and playing on the SMI eye tracker. Unfortunately I can't talk much about the research or Susan's experiment because it might change the outcomes if the experiments. But I can tell you that Kate, Bethany, and some other lady were really helpful in the research. They showed us what type of research was done in the previous interns, and were to find useful information and ideas. Anyways, during lunch we decided to play Uno again. Yesterday Jake shuffled and dealed the cards in such a way that I was stuck with only green and yellow cards. As a result, I got the last place in the game. Today, Robert shuffeled the cards, and at one point I had like seven cards that all were green. But it wasn't that bad because I got something like 4th to last place. Also, Simran and I changed the T-Shirt design a little.

Today was a work day. There were Excel files to finish, T-Shirt design to be done, and research to be started. I did not do a lot of research about what my experiment because I need ideas to come spontaneously. But, I do have several ideas down already. The T-Shirt designing was the fun part. I made randomly, and then after lunch Simran and I made another one (the better one). If I have time tomorrow (maybe tonight) I will continue working on that design, and change it a bit. Anyways, I am ready to go home and eat healthy food (we ate donuts in the morning, cupcakes the whole day, and pizza and soda for lunch!).

There was a lot of stuff that we learned, but it wasn't as stressful as I expected (and everybody said). Maybe it was just the first day. We basically took listened and took notes. Then we looked at some optical illusions and stuff like that. We were supposed to find the degree of something and Simran and I completely forgot basic math, so we were made fun of a bit. But it was more interesting than Excel spreadsheets, so it wasn't bad. Then we learned a little about the eye tracker device they have in a lab next door from Susan. After Susan left, we played around a little on the programs, getting to know how write an experiment and look at the data. Then we went back into our normal lab, did some Excel, played around in MatLab, and researched about our project. Tomorrow we are not sure what is going on. So we are planning on spending some time researching, helping Susan with her research, and learning more about MatLab. There is a lot of uncertainty in our group. (There is a reason why there is a "Where is Jeff?" sign on the door of our lab) :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05698479145536890232noreply@blogger.com0
